DESCRIPTION

Important Notes (optional highlights tour)

  • This tour has a fixed itinerary (see below) which will not provide enough time to visit the Vatican Museum with the Sistine Chapel, nor the Colosseum's interior (outside visit only).
  • This is a large group tour that involves extensive walking (3-4 mi, or 5-6 km total).
  • For a much reduced walking option or for those that wish to have time to visit the Vatican Museums (w/ Sistine Chapel) or the inside of the Colosseum, please see the ROME: Semi-Private Shore Excursion (small group - 8 people max - €65 per person).

Basilica Guided Tour (optional)

Due to Pope Francis' extreme popularity, the Vatican is receiving a much higher number of pilgrims and visitors. The Basilica of S. Peter is free to enter but requires having to go through a metal detector security check-point. This creates long lines which, this year, can take over 1 hour of time to go through. We will be walking to S. Peter's Square (in front of the Basilica). You may choose to queue for the Basilica entrance. HOWEVER BE ADVISED THAT THERE MAY NOT BE ENOUGH TIME TO GET THROUGH THE LONG LINES. ALTERNATIVELY, THE VATICAN OFFERS A GUIDED VISIT WHICH PROVIDES PRIORITY ENTRANCE - COST IS €15.00 per person and can be paid directly on the bus before arrival.

ROUND TRIP only Note

Drop off and pick up will be usually at the parking lot near Castel Sant'Angelo (Palazzaccio or Zanardelli - point B or C on this map).

Highlights Tour Schedule (may be reversed or subjected to changes):

  • Depart Civitavecchia 9:30 am (or later for ships arriving later at the port) and travel to Rome (approximate travel time: 1.5h).

  • Restroom stop – free time to visit of St. Peter’s Basilica (free to enter).
    • Note: the line to enter the Basilica may be very long (45 min. or more). Optionally you can purchase a 1 hour Basilica Guided Visit (with priority entrance) for €15.00 per person payable on site.
  • Group will meet again and walk back to the bus.
  • Panoramic drive to reach the Colosseum (drive by Corso Vittorio Emmanuele, Piazza Venezia, Il Vittoriano, Roman Forum).
  • 15 min. stop at Colosseum to take pictures.
  • Back on the bus to reach the parking area near Trevi Fountain (point F on this map) - walk to Trevi fountain (350 meters/yards).
